LACTANTIA CHOCOLATE AND CARAMEL FLAVOURED CREAM CHEESE PRODUCTS TAKE TOP HONOURS AT
CANADIAN GRAND PRIX NEW PRODUCT AWARDS

TORONTO – (June 2006) – Parmalat Canada is pleased to announce that its Lactantia Chocolate and Caramel Flavoured Cream Cheese Products won for the most innovative in the dairy products category at the 13th annual Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards.

The Lactantia Chocolate and Caramel Cheese Products are the first flavoured brick cream cheeses in the Canadian market and make baking a cheesecake easy. The chocolate/caramel and sugar are blended into the cream cheese ensuring the texture is always smooth and creamy. This product is an easy way to make a multitude of delicious cream cheese desserts.

Parmalat Canada had four finalist products out of a total of nine in the dairy category including its Astro BioBest Omega-3 Yogourt, Astro Jeunesse Yogourt, Balderson Vintners Cheddar Cheese and Lactantia Chocolate and Caramel Flavoured Cream Cheese Products.

“Parmalat’s win is a result of our employee’s ongoing commitment to quality and innovative products that our consumers love,” says Doug Ettinger, Senior Vice President, Marketing. “The Lactantia Chocolate and Caramel Flavoured Cream Cheese Products are two unique new products that we know will be a great success.”

Grocery products introduced or marketed in Canada between January 1 and September 30, 2005 were eligible to enter the 13th edition of the awards. In February 2006, a 30-member jury met at the Institute de tourisme et d’hotellerie du Quebec in Montreal for a one-week period to evaluate this year’s entries. According to one jury member, “The Lactantia Chocolate and Caramel Flavoured Cream Cheese Products are very good and innovative. They would be great to use for baking and are nice and creamy with a great texture.” Another jury member stated that, “The Cream Cheese Products are very different - like no other product on the market. They have a very special taste for many uses. They have a beautiful presentation and are a good buy.”

The awards were announced May 28 at the St. John’s Convention Centre, during the 2006 National Grocery Conference presented by Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors (CCGD) and the Food and Consumer Products of Canada (FCPC). The Grand Prix honours the best new food and non-food products, for their excellence in packaging and design, labeling, pricing, taste, quality, and overall consumer benefits.
